Wildfire on Ice

2017 Recap

Updated: Jan 17, 2023

The Wildfire On Ice committee once again partnered with the Walker Area Community Center to host the event! The WACC received $1,600 of the proceeds. The fund raising efforts from this year’s event will generate over $18,000 for the Wildland Firefighter Foundation. The Walker Youth Hockey Association also benefited from concession sales that raised over $475 for Youth Hockey. Thank you Gretchen Gribbin & Staff!

In addition to the ice hockey, the event was open to the public and offered kids and their families an opportunity to ice skate with Smokey Bear and enjoy some delicious pizza from Benson’s!

MNICS were the tournament champs!

The Tournament committee extends a huge thank you to all the local sponsors and individuals that helped make the event a huge success. The Spencer-Ross Post #134 American Legion hosted the tournament banquet and served up a taco bar that raised $500 for the Foundation. Other local sponsors include Reeds Family Outdoor Outfitters, Walker Home Center, Pepsi Nei Bottling, BSU Beaver Hockey, Rice Creative Services, Chase on the Lake, Walker Hotel, Walker Country Inn, Bemidji Brewing, Bemidji Woolen Mills, Garfield Lake Ice Racers, & Benson’s Eating & Drinking Emporium

A special thanks to Byron & Leslie Sagen and Mitch & Mara Loomis for supporting the event in numerous ways!

2017 was the fourth straight year the event was held in Walker. The event is planned for Walker again in January of 2018!
